Glove Size Guide

Picking the right weight matters more than picking the right colour. Here's how to choose.

What the ounces actually mean

The oz number is the weight of the padding, not the size of the glove. More ounces means more padding, more protection for your hands and your partner's head, and a slower, heavier feel.

Choose by what you're doing

WeightBest forTypical body weight
10ozBag work, pad work, competition (where rules allow)Under 130 lb / 59 kg
12ozBag and pad work, light technical drilling130–150 lb / 59–68 kg
14ozAll-round training, light sparring150–180 lb / 68–82 kg
16ozSparring — required by most gyms180 lb / 82 kg and up

If you only buy one pair

Buy 16oz. Almost every gym requires 16oz to spar, and a 16oz glove still works fine on the bag. A 10oz glove will not get you into a sparring round.

If you already own sparring gloves and want a dedicated bag pair, go 12oz or 14oz.

Fit and hand wraps

Mortal Guard gloves are built to be worn with hand wraps, and the sizing assumes them. If you train without wraps, the fit will feel loose — wrap up. It protects your wrists and knuckles, and it keeps the inside of the glove from breaking down.

Breaking them in

Genuine leather is stiff out of the box and softens to your hand over the first few sessions. That stiffness is the leather doing its job — it's why the gloves last.
